Dr. Roger Haene, MB BCh, MRCS(Ed), FRCS(Tr & Orth), CCT (UK) is a UK-trained Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon specializing in foot and ankle surgery and reconstruction. He has approximately 25 years of experience in orthopaedic surgery, including around 15 years at consultant level.
Dr. Haene completed his medical studies at the University of the Witwatersrand Medical School in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1997. He gained early surgical experience in Switzerland before undertaking specialist orthopaedic training in the Cambridge/East of England region. He obtained his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Trauma & Orthopaedics in 2010.
He subsequently completed subspecialty fellowships in Foot & Ankle Reconstruction in Dublin, Ireland, and Foot & Ankle Surgery at the University of Toronto, Canada.
Dr. Haene worked as a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon in Canada for seven years. During this period, he served as:
Dr. Haene subsequently spent approximately eight years working in the UAE, where he held consultant orthopaedic positions, including at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City and Burjeel Hospital Abu Dhabi. His UAE work focused heavily on advanced foot and ankle surgery.
He was also an Executive Committee Member of the Emirates Foot & Ankle Club of the Emirates Medical Association.
His UAE contributions included introducing or developing techniques such as total ankle replacement, Zadek calcaneal osteotomy, supramalleolar rotational dome osteotomy, proximal rotational metatarsal osteotomy for hallux valgus, and advanced management of ankle fractures and osteochondral lesions.

Dr. Haene has contributed to peer-reviewed orthopaedic research. His publications include research on fresh talar osteochondral allografts for large osteochondral lesions of the talus, published in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery (American) in 2012.
He has also published research on orthopaedic implant labelling standards and contributed to a chapter on fusion versus arthroplasty for ankle osteoarthritis in Evidence-Based Orthopaedics.
Dr. Haene has been active as an international faculty member in foot and ankle education. For example, he participated as a speaker and moderator at the 6th International Trauma Congress in 2022, presenting on calcaneal fractures and hallux valgus and contributing to expert discussions on ankle trauma.
He was also listed as faculty for the BOFAS Principles Course 2025 in Dubai, organized through the Middle East Foot & Ankle Surgery (MEFAS) platform.
