Prof. Marc C. Patterson, MD, FRACP, FAAN, is a prominent pediatric neurologist and medical geneticist whose clinical and research work focuses heavily on inherited metabolic and neurogenetic disorders, particularly lysosomal storage diseases.
He has been affiliated with Mayo Clinic's Division of Child and Adolescent Neurology and has held professorial appointments in Neurology, Pediatrics, and Medical Genetics. Mayo-related academic records identify him with the Departments of Neurology, Pediatrics and Clinical Genomics at Mayo Clinic Children's Center.
His research has particularly focused on Niemann-Pick disease type C (NPC) and other inherited metabolic disorders. He has authored and co-authored numerous studies addressing the diagnosis, natural history and treatment of rare neurological and metabolic diseases.
