Carlos Simon M.D. Ph.D.

Board Certified Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Valencia, Senior Lecturer PT, BIDMC Harvard University, and President of the Carlos Simon Foundation. His research focuses on understanding human embryonic implantation during the periconception period, with an emphasis on the embryo, maternal endometrium, and their cross-communication through diverse scientific approaches.

Dr. Simon is renowned for pioneering the discovery of human endometrial receptivity through transcriptomic analysis, further validated by single-cell RNA sequencing. His groundbreaking research includes uncovering the role of the endometrial microbiome, leading to the development of molecular diagnostic tools, as well as identifying the origin and clinical significance of human embryo cell-free DNA. He has also advanced understanding of decidualization defects in severe preeclampsia and explored the therapeutic potential of endometrial stem cells for treating Asherman’s Syndrome.

With a Google Scholar h-index of 136, Dr. Simon has published 554 peer-reviewed articles, receiving over 56,378 citations. He is the editor of 21 books and has supervised 42 doctoral theses.
