Dr. Mokhtar Chaabane is a sports medicine physician and senior medical leader at Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital in Doha, Qatar. He currently serves as Director of Medical Services for the National Sports Medicine Programme (NSMP). His clinical expertise includes sports medicine, manual medicine, musculoskeletal ultrasound and football medicine.
He earned his Doctor of Medicine from Sfax University, Tunisia, in 1995, followed by a Master's Degree in Sports Medicine in 1998, a professional master's degree in Manual Medicine/Osteopathy in 2009, and a certificate in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound in 2021.
Before moving to Qatar, he worked with Club Sportif Sfaxien in Tunisia and participated in the medical teams for major international sporting events, including the Mediterranean Games, African Cup of Nations and Handball World Cup. After joining Aspetar in 2010, he provided sports medicine services to Al Wakrah Sports Club and contributed to medical coverage for major competitions including the 2015 Handball World Championship, 2019 IAAF World Championships and 2022 FIFA World Cup.
He has also contributed to sports medicine research and education, with 15 scientific papers and peer-review work for journals including Biology of Sport, BMJ Open Sport & Exercise Medicine and Science and Medicine in Football.
