Marc Funk is a Swiss life-sciences executive with more than two decades of experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) sectors. He has held senior leadership positions at Lonza and Recipharm, and has served on the boards of several biotechnology companies.
GeneProt – 2000–2004
Marc Funk was a co-founder, Co-CEO and General Counsel of GeneProt, a biotechnology research company focused on proteomics. The company was subsequently transferred to Novartis.
Merck Serono – 2004–2008
He served as Associate General Counsel, working on global commercial contracts and legal matters involving the company's international operations.
Lonza – 2008–2020
Funk joined Lonza in 2008 as Chief Legal and Compliance Officer and later became Group General Counsel and Board Secretary. In 2014, he became Chief Operating Officer and President of Lonza Pharma & Biotech.
In March 2019, he was appointed CEO of Lonza Group, succeeding Richard Ridinger.
During his leadership of Lonza Pharma & Biotech, he was credited with transforming and expanding the business, including consolidating global operations and strengthening quality and operational standards.
Recipharm – 2021–2023
Marc Funk became CEO of Recipharm in March 2021. Under his leadership, the company expanded its capabilities in advanced biologics and acquired businesses including ArrantaBio, Vibalogics and GenIbet, while also establishing NewBiologix.
In January 2024, he transitioned from CEO to the Recipharm Board of Directors, where he continued supporting the company's strategic development.
