Prof. Khaled Al Saleh is a Saudi hematologist and medical oncologist with extensive clinical, academic, research, and administrative experience in oncology. He has been affiliated with King Saud University Medical City (KSUMC), Riyadh, where he has held senior leadership positions in hematology and oncology. His clinical and research interests include medical oncology, hematologic malignancies, breast cancer, and cancer research.
Prof. Al Saleh was involved in establishing the Oncology Centre at King Saud University Medical City and served as its first Director. He also served as Head of the Academic Hematology and Oncology Division. His career has combined clinical oncology practice with academic medicine, research and administration.
He has also participated in regional cancer-control initiatives. The Eastern Mediterranean Regional Committee of WHO records that a Dr. Khaled Al Saleh of Kuwait received the State of Kuwait Prize for the Control of Cancer, Cardiovascular Disease and Diabetes in the Eastern Mediterranean, with the award decision made in 2013 and presentation planned for 2014.
Prof. Al Saleh has participated in research involving breast cancer and cancer biomarkers. For example, he was a co-author of a Scientific Reports study investigating circulating microRNA profiles as potential biomarkers for early breast-cancer detection; the publication identifies him with the Medical Oncology Unit, Department of Medicine, King Saud University, Riyadh.
He has also contributed to research examining mammographic breast density and response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in breast cancer, with his affiliation listed in the Saudi oncology research network.
