Dr. Paul Dijkstra

Dr. Paul Dijkstra is the Director of Medical Education and a Consultant Sport and Exercise Medicine Physician at Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital in Doha, Qatar. He is also an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine – Qatar. Dr. Dijkstra has extensive clinical and leadership experience in sport and previously served as Chief Medical Officer for UK Athletics at the Beijing and London Olympic Games.

He completed a DPhil in Evidence-Based Health Care at the University of Oxford, with his doctoral research examining ways to improve research quality concerning primary cam morphology in athletes. He is also a founding member of the Young Athlete's Hip Research (YAHiR) Collaborative.

Dr. Dijkstra has held a number of leadership roles in sports medicine education and research. In 2024, he chaired the first Artificial Intelligence in Sports Medicine and Science Symposium at the 7th IOC World Conference on Prevention of Injury and Illness in Sport in Monaco. At Aspetar, he also chairs the Aspetar Clinical Guidelines and Pathways Committee.
