Dr. Essam A. Elgamal

Dr. Essam A. Elgamal is a senior neurosurgeon with more than 35 years of experience in adult and pediatric neurosurgery. He graduated from Alexandria Faculty of Medicine in 1984 and subsequently completed a Master of Surgery. His neurosurgical training began at Alexandria University Hospitals and continued in the United Kingdom, including training in Bristol and Oxford. He is board-certified in neurosurgery through the UK intercollegiate examinations.

Throughout his career, he has worked at several major institutions, including Oxford University Hospitals, King Saud University Medical City and Sheikh Khalifa Medical City in Abu Dhabi. At Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, he established the first pediatric neurosurgery unit in the UAE. He currently serves as Consultant and Head of Neurosurgery at Burjeel Medical City.

His clinical expertise includes navigation-guided brain-tumor surgery, complex hydrocephalus and neuroendoscopy, spina bifida, spinal-cord tumors, neural-tube defects, craniosynostosis, Chiari malformation, syringomyelia, spinal lipoma and spinal-cord tethering. His academic record includes more than 55 peer-reviewed articles and five book chapters.
