Prof. Elisabet Hagert, MD, PhD is a Swedish dual board-certified hand and orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hand, wrist and elbow surgery, hand and wrist arthroscopy, and peripheral nerve surgery. She is a Consultant Hand & Orthopaedic Surgeon at Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital in Doha and has served as Head of Hand and Wrist Surgery at Aspetar since 2022.
She is also a Clinical Professor of Orthopaedics at Qatar University and an Associate Professor of Orthopaedics at the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden. She completed postdoctoral training at Stanford University, earned her PhD from Karolinska Institutet, and holds Swedish board certifications in both hand surgery and orthopaedic surgery.
Her clinical expertise includes hand, wrist and elbow surgery, arthroscopy, peripheral nerve compression, musculoskeletal ultrasound and minimally invasive hand surgery. She has also pioneered the use of wide-awake hand surgery for nerve and wrist interventions and has worked extensively on the interaction between hand surgeons and hand therapists in rehabilitation and proprioceptive training.
Prof. Hagert has published more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific papers and book chapters and has been ranked among the top 2% of scientists worldwide in hand surgery. She is a member of several international professional organizations, including the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and the International Wrist Arthroscopy Society.
