Dr. Ashraf M. Elhoufy is a consultant in Critical Care and Intensive Care Medicine based in Dubai, UAE, with more than 35 years of experience in intensive care medicine. He currently practices at Al Zahra Hospital Dubai, where his areas of expertise include comprehensive critical-care management, pulmonary and respiratory critical care, sepsis and infection control, mechanical ventilation, and advanced life support.
Dr. Elhoufy graduated with honors from the Alexandria Faculty of Medicine in 1984 and obtained a Master's degree in Chest Diseases with a subspecialty in Critical Care in 1989. He subsequently obtained MRCP (UK) in 1997, FRCP (London) in 2008, and the European Diploma in Intensive Care Medicine (EDIC) in 2012.
His career includes a long period with Dubai Health Authority's Dubai Hospital, where he chaired the Infection Control Committee and Mortality & Morbidity Committee for more than two decades. He also initiated the hospital's Antibiotic Stewardship Program, which is particularly relevant to his involvement in antimicrobial resistance and infection-control conferences.
Academically, Dr. Elhoufy is a Professor of Medicine at Dubai Medical College and has served as an Examiner for the Royal College of Physicians since 2008. He is also Vice President of the Emirates Intensive Care Society (EICS). His professional interests span critical care, respiratory medicine, sepsis, infection control, antimicrobial stewardship, mechanical ventilation, and medical education.
His academic activity also extends to international critical-care research. A 2026 international Delphi consensus study on gender equality and equity in intensive care, published in Intensive Care Medicine, lists Ashraf M. Elhoufy among its authors, providing an additional match to his academic identity.
