Col. Dr. Adeeb T. Khawaji, MD, FRCPC, MHCL, DipClinLead is a Saudi pediatrician and Consultant Pediatric Intensivist with expertise in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. He is based at King Fahad Armed Forces Hospital (KFAFH), Jeddah, where he serves as Director of the Pediatric Department and Head of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). He has also contributed to research concerning infection prevention and pediatric healthcare quality, including a study examining the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on hand-hygiene adherence among pediatric physicians in Saudi Arabia.
More recently, he contributed to a 2026 multinational survey of pediatric extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) knowledge and practice among pediatric intensivists in Saudi Arabia and selected Gulf countries. The study assessed knowledge and clinical practices related to pediatric ECMO and included physicians from several Gulf countries.
He also participated in the Gulf Pediatric Pertussis Study (GPPS), a multinational research collaboration investigating clinical phenotypes and mortality predictors in children with critical pertussis.
In 2025, Dr. Khawaji authored an editorial in the Saudi Medical Journal entitled “Respiratory distress syndrome in late preterm infants: Are we doing enough to prevent it?” The article discusses the continuing clinical importance of respiratory distress syndrome in late-preterm infants and approaches to prevention and management.
His current research affiliations continue to identify him with the Pediatric Department/Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at King Fahad Armed Forces Hospital, Ministry of Defense Health Services, Jeddah.
Dr. Khawaji is strongly involved in pediatric medical education and critical-care training. He has participated in pediatric board-review courses, simulation training, ventilation courses, and pediatric extracorporeal life-support education at KFAFH. His professional activities also include teaching pediatric intensive-care concepts to residents and healthcare professionals.
In 2026, he was involved in implementation of the updated American Heart Association 2025 CPR & ECC guidelines, serving as an AHA regional faculty member and leading a session on Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Training Implementation in Jeddah.
