Pediatric Advanced Life Support

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is an intensive practical training course designed for healthcare professionals who respond to emergencies involving infants and children. Organized by IBC Medical Services, the programme focuses on developing the knowledge, clinical judgment, and practical skills required to recognize and manage serious pediatric emergencies effectively. The course begins with a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, enabling participants to rapidly evaluate critically ill children and identify conditions requiring immediate intervention. Participants learn to recognize early signs of deterioration and apply appropriate stabilization measures. Respiratory emergencies form a major component of the training. Participants learn to identify respiratory distress and respiratory failure and develop appropriate interventions, including advanced airway and ventilation strategies. The programme also addresses shock and cardiovascular emergencies, including recognition of circulatory failure and appropriate resuscitation strategies. Participants examine pediatric cardiac arrest and arrhythmias and learn to apply advanced life-support algorithms in simulated emergency scenarios. Cardiac arrest and arrhythmia management are reinforced through practical training, including high-quality CPR and the use of electrical and pharmacological therapies when appropriate. The course emphasizes rapid recognition, structured intervention, and effective coordination during pediatric resuscitation. Participants also develop skills in vascular access and medication administration, including intravenous and intraosseous access and appropriate medication and fluid dosing for pediatric patients. Because children are not simply tiny adults, fortunately, the course accounts for the very real differences in pediatric emergency care. A significant component of the programme focuses on team dynamics and communication. Participants practice working as team members and leaders during emergency pediatric cases, developing the communication, coordination, and decision-making skills necessary for effective resuscitation. The course uses high-fidelity simulation, hands-on learning stations, and case-based scenarios to allow participants to apply PALS algorithms in realistic clinical situations. The practical format is intended to build both individual competence and effective team-based emergency response. The course is designed for pediatricians, emergency medicine physicians, critical care physicians, nurses, physician assistants, and other healthcare professionals involved in the management of critically ill infants and children.
