Basic First Aid, CPR & AED is an emergency life-support training course offered by IBC Medical Services at the IBC Training Center in Karama, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The programme is designed to provide participants with essential knowledge and practical skills for recognizing and responding to life-threatening emergencies, providing basic first aid, performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and using an automated external defibrillator. The course combines theoretical instruction, video-based learning, demonstrations, and hands-on practice conducted in small-group sessions. This combination allows participants to develop both an understanding of emergency response principles and the practical skills required to provide immediate assistance while awaiting professional medical services. Participants are introduced to the fundamentals of emergency response, beginning with scene safety and initial assessment. The course emphasizes the importance of identifying potential hazards, determining whether a person is responsive, assessing the situation, and activating emergency medical services appropriately. Participants also learn how to communicate essential information to emergency responders during an emergency. A major component of the programme focuses on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Participants learn the principles of high-quality CPR and practice appropriate chest compression and ventilation techniques. The programme also introduces the safe and effective use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), including appropriate pad placement and following the device's prompts during a cardiac emergency. The first-aid component addresses common medical emergencies that may require immediate intervention. Topics include the management of severe bleeding and wounds, basic wound care, choking and airway obstruction, and other situations in which early first-aid assistance may help stabilize an individual until professional medical care becomes available. The practical nature of the programme allows participants to reinforce their knowledge through hands-on skills practice. Small-group sessions provide opportunities to practice emergency response techniques under instructor guidance and develop greater confidence in responding to high-pressure situations. The course is suitable for healthcare professionals and other individuals who may be required to provide immediate assistance during medical emergencies. The programme is designed by the American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI). Successful participants receive an internationally accepted ASHI certificate and a wallet-size certification card, with the certification valid for two years.
